SUICIDE INVESTIGATED AT JUVENILE FACILITY

A New Madrid juvenile committed suicide Tuesday afternoon at the Juvenile Detention Center in Cape Girardeau.

Cape Girardeau firefighters were summoned to the center, situated at 325 Merriwether, at 3:39 p.m. Tuesday for medical assistance.

The youth had been transported to the city from New Madrid early Tuesday.

Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Carpenter was reviewing the death late Tuesday night.

An official report will not be available until later today.

Details about the nature of the youth's death, his age or other information was not released, pending notification of the family and further investigation.
