O'FALLON, Mo. (AP) -- A relative says soldier from suburban St. Louis who was serving in Afghanistan was among nine Army soldiers killed in an ambush last weekend.
Twenty-year-old Gunnar Zwilling, of Florissant, died Sunday morning in an insurgent attack on an American outpost in eastern Afghanistan.
Zwilling's aunt, Lisa Zwilling, of O'Fallon, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for a story on its Web site that Gunnar was a dedicated military man who loved serving his country.
He was a parachutist with an airborne unit. His aunt says he enlisted in the Army after graduating from Hazelwood West High School.
The U.S. Department of Defense has not confirmed Zwilling's death.
