Michelle Eby of Delta High School and James Bailey, Amy Wilton, and Kristi Jenkins, all of Advance High School, have won this year's Rural Youth Tour trip to Washington, D.C., June 1-16. They were chosen after winning an essay contest sponsored by Scott-New Madrid-Mississippi Electric Cooperative and the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives.
Eby is the daughter of Mike and Sheila Eby of Whitewater, Bailey is the son of Melvin and Pam Bailey of Oran, Wilton is the daughter of Cecilia Wilton of Advance, and Jenkins is the daughter of Tony and Liana Jenkins of Advance.
The high-school juniors won with their essays on rural electrification. The area contest was open to high-school juniors whose parents or guardians are members of the Scott-New Madrid-Mississippi Electric Cooperative.
They are among 73 Youth Tour participants from Missouri and will join approximately 1,100 participants from across the United States in seeing points of interest in Washington and meeting with their congressmen.
