Twenty-two local high school students will compete in the 11th annual Cape Girardeau County Young Woman of the Year contest, to be held next Saturday and Sunday at Cape Girardeau Central High School auditorium.
The contestants have been divided into two groups, a north county and a south county group.
The Saturday competition begins at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday portion begins at 2 p.m.
Girls will compete in a fitness routine, a creative or performing art, presence and composure, scholastically and in an interview with judges.
Girls will compete for scholarship money and the honor of representing Cape Girardeau County at the state competition in January.
Tickets are available at the door for $3.50 or from any contestant for $3.
Judges for the pageant are Shirley Cooper, mayor of Marble Hill and a music instructor in the Woodland School system; Don and Roz Koyn, who have served as a host family for the Junior Miss Program for 14 years; Carole C. Price, a clinical social worker specializing in adolescent behaviors; El O'dean Knight, director of the Scott County Action-Retired Senior Volunteer Program; Bill Priday, a football coach for 14 years and recently retired principal of Sikeston High School.
South Cape County participants are:
Tiffiney Diane Kies, a student at Jackson High School, who plans to be a criminal psychologist. She enjoys horseback riding, photography and hiking and will present a poetry reading at the competition. She is the daughter of David Kies Jr. and Diane Kies.
Deborah Soun Chung, a student at Cape Girardeau Central High School, plans to be a lawyer. She enjoys playing piano, music and reading, and will present a piano solo at the competition. She is the daughter of Dr. Woo-sik and Youn Chung.
Jeanne Elizabeth Steger, a student at Cape Girardeau Central High School, plans a career in business. She collects unicorns and enjoys dance and softball. Her talent presentation will be an aerobic routine. She is the daughter of LeRoy and Gloria Steger.
Beth Marie Rellergert, a student at Notre Dame High School, plans to become a pilot. She enjoys art, swimming and volleyball. Her talent competition will be an oral presentation. She is the daughter of Marvin and Ruth Rellergert.
Christina Dionne Berry, a student at Jackson High School, plans a career in business management. She enjoys singing and will present a vocal solo at the competition. She is the daughter of Paul and Linda Berry.
Nicole Evonne Blankenship, a student at Jackson High School, plans to be a physical therapist. She enjoys running, piano and needlepoint. Her talent presentation will be a baton routine. She is the daughter of Linda and Bruce Blankenship.
Lynn Abrisz, a student at Oak Ridge High School, plans to be an accountant. She enjoys biking, volleyball and counted cross-stitch. She will present a dance routine at the competition and is the daughter of Paul and Judy Abrisz.
Janie Louise Propst, a student at Cape Girardeau Central High School, plans to be a zoo veterinarian. She enjoys reading, drama and tennis. Her talent presentation will be a dramatic musical interpretation. She is the daughter of Ed Propst and Donna Propst.
Carrie Elizabeth Peterman, a student at Cape Girardeau Central High School, plans a career in broadcast communications. She enjoys dancing, drama and playing the flute. Her talent presentation will be ballet. She is the daughter of Neal and Hope Peterman.
Brenda Sue Uhrhan, a student at Jackson High School, plans to be an accountant. She enjoys acting, collecting thimbles and cake decorating. She will present a humorous interpretation at the competition. She is the daughter of Cletus and Sue Uhrhan.
Karen Denee Hasty, a student at Cape Girardeau Central High School, plans a career in accounting. She enjoys playing piano, collecting bears and playing basketball. She will present a piano and vocal solo at the competition. She is the daughter of Lonnie and Brenda Hasty.
North Cape County participants are:
Angela Marie Scherer, a student at Jackson High School, plans a career in the medical field. She enjoys swimming, horseback riding and fishing, and plans a poetic reading at the competition. She is the daughter of Bonnie and Gary Scherer.
Julie Suzanne Simmons, a student at Jackson High School, plans a career in accounting and business management. She enjoys softball, swimming and tennis and will present a flute solo at the competition. She is the daughter of Joe and Joy Simmons.
Nickole Lynn Keller, a student at Cape Girardeau Central High School, plans to be a physical therapist. She enjoys shopping, camping and dance, and plans to perform a gymnastic dance routine at the competition. She is the daughter of Keith and Vicki Keller.
Sheila Lynn Millburg, a student at Notre Dame High School, plans a career in education and art. She enjoys sketching, painting and skiing. She plans to present an art display and poetry at the contest. She is the daughter of Tom and Judy Millburg.
Jayne Marie Jauch, a student at Cape Girardeau Central High School, plans a career in education. She enjoys writing, poetry and singing, and will perform an original song at the competition. She is the daughter of Max and Charlotte Jauch.
Anne Marie Smith, a student at Jackson High School, plans a career in journalism and broadcast communications. She enjoys scrapbooks, cross country and flute. At the competition, she will present a humorous interpretation. She is the daughter of Don and Chien Dennis.
Kerri Susanne Monteith, a student at Jackson High School, plans to be an optometrist. She enjoys playing piano, volleyball and sign language. Her talent presentation will combine singing and signing. She is the daughter of Gary and Carol Monteith.
Michelle Lynne Eakins, a student at Cape Girardeau Central High School, plans a career in business and health care. She enjoys volleyball, dancing and collecting stuffed animals. She plans to perform a dance routine at the competition. She is the daughter of Carl and Donna Eakins.
Kristen Janine Seabaugh, a student at Cape Girardeau Central High School, plans a career in either education or business. She enjoys reading, writing and tennis and plans to present an oral interpretation at the competition. She is the daughter of Peter Seabaugh and the late Shirley Seabaugh.
Felicia Janette Ford, a student at Cape Girardeau Central High School, plans to be a lawyer. She enjoys music, track and playing clarinet and plans to give a vocal presentation at the competition. She is the daughter of Freddie and Angela Ford.
Sherry Lea Langford, a student at Jackson High School, plans a career in business and finance. She enjoys reading, baseball and swimming, and plans to perform a piano solo at the competition. She is the daughter of John and Elaine Langford.
