American Legion Post 158 of Jackson has selected the following students as Music Student of the Month for September, October and November. This is a program of the Americanism Committee of the Legion Post and recognizes outstanding music students of Jackson High School. The students receive a $100 savings bonds in honor of their accomplishments.

The September student of the month is Beth Roethemeyer, daughter of the Rev. Sam and Marilee Roethemeyer. Beth is a member of the chamber choir, handbell choir, symphonic band, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council, J-Club, pep club, French Club, Jackson Drug Free Advisory Council, Choir Council, Just Say No, Y.E.S., and Jackson Junior Optimist Club. She is the secretary of the National Honor Society, a Hi-Step leader, co-editor of the yearbook staff, and co-captain of the tennis team. Beth also volunteers at Southeast Hospital and Hoover Eldercare at Southeast Missouri State University. She has been a member of the all-district choir for three years, recently became a member of the all-state choir, and has performed with the Choral Union at the university. Beth attends Emanuel United Church of Christ, where she sings in the adult choir, is president of the Youth Fellowship, and is a substitute teacher. After graduation, Beth plans to attend Southeast and pursue a career in mass communications and music.

The October student of the month is Matt Martin. Matt is the son of Larry and Harriet Martin of Jackson. He is an Eagle Scout, a two-year member of the Honor's Wind Ensemble and the jazz band, a three-year member of the marching band, and a four-year member of the all-district band. Matt is involved in the youth group at his church. After graduation, Matt plans to major in music and specialize in trumpet.

The November student of the month is Chris Wunderlich. Chris is the son of Carey and Susan Wunderlich of Jackson. Chris is a member of the marching band, pep band, jazz band, Dixieland band, and the symphonic band. He is a two-year member of the all-district band, participates in the Alert Program, and serves as the secretary-treasurer of the Spanish Club. Chris attends St. Paul Lutheran Church and is involved in the L.Y.M. youth group, where he plays in the church ensembles. Following graduation, Chris plans to attend college and major in either chemical engineering or anesthesia.
