Champ Friend of Cape Girardeau was among 27 writers from grades four to 12 honored at the Southeast Missouri Writing Achievement Awards program.
This year, 109 schools from Southeast Missouri participated and 461 students entered their writing. Authors were honored by grade level and category.
Friend was honored for an essay written by a student in grades four to six. Amanda Webb of Jackson was honored for an essay written by a student in grades seven to nine, Erin Friederich of Jackson was honored for an essay written by a student in grades 10 to 12, and Rachel Casteel of Jackson was honored for fiction written by a student in grades 10 to 12.
