John A.W. Ireland of Cape Girardeau has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship by Modern Woodmen of America and Sherri L. Overbeck of Chaffee has been awarded a $1,200, two-year scholarship by the orgranization.

Modern Woodmen is a fraternal life insurance society headquartered at Rock Island, Ill.

Ireland, son of Mattie Mae Ireland of Cape Girardeau, plans to use the scholarship to attend the University of Missouri-Rolla.

Overbeck, daughter of Weldon and Lois Overbeck, plans to use the scholarship to attend the Cape Girardeau Area Vocational-Technical School.

They are among 48 scholarship winners in the 1991 Modern Woodmen scholarship program.
