CAPE GIRARDEAU -- David Hearnes, a seventh grade student at L.J. Schultz School, will compete for the second year in a row at the state level of the National Geographic geography bee.

The state contest will be held Friday at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Hearnes qualified for the state contest by winning the local geography bee against students in the Probe gifted program at Schultz.

The state geography bee will conducted just like a spelling bee.

Students will be asked questions about specific locations. They will also be quizzed on different areas of geography, like products of different areas and political issues.

Jason Azuma won second place at the local bee.
