Modern Woodmen is a fraternal life insurance society with home offices in Rock Island, Ill. Schaefer is one of 36 scholarship winners chosen in the 1996 Modern Woodmen Scholarship Program.

Schaefer, son of Donald and Diane Schaefer of Cape Girardeau, plans to use his scholarship to attend Centre College in Danville, Ky.
