Jackson High School Student Council members attended the Missouri State Student Council Conference at Branson High School recently and brought home many new ideas.
"The point was to learn from other Student Councils, what works in their schools," said junior Maggie Martin, "like showing appreciation for teachers, having spirit week, etc."
Next year's school officers were also elected for the state. Washington High School will be president, while North Nodaway beat out Cape Central for first vice president. The Jackson congregation campaigned for its Cape rivals.
"We learned ways to have teacher appreciation weeks, how to do things in the community (such as senior citizen projects) and how to publicize events on the ratio, TV, etc.," said Josh Tomlin. "I had a really good time. We learned a lot by being there."
"We had really good motivational speakers," added Todd Shelton. "It was a good time. Some Branson entertainers performed."
"It taught us a lot of leadership skills, like how to make people feel better about themselves," said Samantha Thurman. "We got to meet a lot of people and see a lot of ideas."
"It was a lot of fun, too," Martin said. "There were about 1,400 kids. It was neat meeting the people from around the state."
Student Council elections will be held April 14 at JHS.
