Regina's House of Dolls, which plans to open a strip bar on Enterprise Street in Cape Girardeau Feb. 1, has kept out of "major" trouble at Paducah.
And, David Rosener, the attorney representing Regina's owner, Regina Capps, said Cape Girardeau can expect the same kind of trouble-free operation.
Cape Girardeau's City Council will rule on Regina's application for a liquor license at its meeting Tuesday.
Rosener said Regina's, which has operated in Paducah for seven years, has had a good relationship with the police there. He said the company wants to establish a similar rapport with Cape Girardeau police.
Capps also owns Regina's II, a nude bar just outside Paducah, but that bar is a juice bar, which doesn't have a liquor license and isn't subject to the Kentucky liquor control board.
Rosener said Regina's has complied with all the city's requests and expects to receive the liquor license. The business has passed a Cape Girardeau police background check.
Paducah police spokesman Danny Carroll said this week that Regina's has steered clear of problems.
"Basically, we have a fairly good relationship with the management there," Carroll said, adding that at type of establishment, "you're going to have calls." But, he added, "I'd say they are one of the establishments here that doesn't have any major problems. "As with any establishment of that nature, you're going to have calls to go out there from time to time, but I'd say they are one of the establishments here that doesn't have any major problems."
Carroll said Regina's has a security guard on the premises at all times.
"They're always there, making sure they're on top of things," Carroll said. "It's usually pretty calm out there."
Rosener said Regina's subjects its dancers to periodic checks for drugs. "All dancers have their purses and lockers checked," Rosener said. "Drugs are not going to be permitted on the premises. Neither the dancers nor the patrons will be allowed to bring drugs into this establishment. If any drugs are found, it becomes grounds for immediate dismissal."
