ST. LOUIS -- A section of the street that runs along the Mississippi River in downtown St. Louis is closing for 10 months.
Leonor K. Sullivan Boulevard is shutting down as part of the work to upgrade the area around the Gateway Arch. The closed section is between Chouteau Avenue and the grand staircase at the Arch.
Plans call for spending several million dollars to make the Arch area more attractive and accessible. The original goal of having the work done by 2015, the 50th anniversary of the Arch, has been pushed back to 2016 because of the complexity of the work.
