POCAHONTAS -- The Pocahontas 4-H Club recently received an award for its work in the "Adopt-A-Stream" program.

The club, which has adopted a portion of Shawnee Creek in North Cape County, was one of four recipients in the state to receive an award from the Conservation Federation of Missouri during the Rivers and Streams Conference held at Columbia last month.

The group, also participated in the Rivers and Streams Poster session during the conference.

The Pocahontas 4-H, under the leadership of Mark Kasten, is the first in this area to adopt a stream. The initial club project involved litter control. The club's next project will be to correct several eroding banks.
