"Straight Talk," a program for parents of teenagers is planned Friday from 7-11 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School cafeteria.
Speakers and topics for the lock-in include "Message in the Music," by Kevin Orr of the Cape Girardeau Police Department; "Inhalants," by Bill Askew, alcohol and substance abuse counselor for Cape Girardeau schools; "The Aftermath, a film presented by Jim Hicks of St. Andrew Lutheran Church; "Delinquency in the '90s," by Randy Rhodes and John Bucheit, Cape Girardeau County Juvenile Department; and "Teen Stress," by Bob Lefebvre, Community Counseling Center.
The objective for the event is to help parents and schools work together to build self-esteem for teenagers.
Registration for the event begins at 6:30 p.m. Dress is casual and those attending are asked to bring snack food and a one-liter soft drink.
The lock-in is sponsored by the high school and junior high school substance abuse prevention teams.
