A Republican primary race has developed for Cape Girardeau County recorder of deeds with the filing of Cheryl D. Stoffregen of Cape Girardeau for the position.
Stoffregen said she filed for the office because she has the qualifications to provide the kind of efficient and accurate service the public needs in the recorder's office.
"This position requires dedication, accuracy and efficiency," said Stoffregen. "Also, friendly and courteous service are important to maintaining a good working relationship with the public. After all, the citizens of Cape County are the customers and the employer."
She added, "I have dealt with titles, deeds and various legal documents and have 17 years experience in office management, bookkeeping, and filing of records and state reports. At the same time, most of my work has involved customer service."
With all the technology available today, Stoffregen maintained there should be no reason for any delays in recording documents.
Stoffregen will face Darlene Bonney of Jackson in the Republican primary Aug. 2. So far, incumbent Janet Robert is the only Democrat who has filed.
Filing for offices on the 1994 ballot will continue through March 29.
Stoffregen stressed that she is viewing the recorder's office as a fulltime job, not just as an elected office.
"I feel that my strongest qualifications are dedication and dependability, coupled with the experience required to run the office efficiently," she said.
Stoffregen is a lifelong resident of Cape Girardeau County and a graduate of Central High School. She and her husband, Frank, have been marred 17 years and have two daughters, Amy 13 and Jessica 11.
She is presently working for Bangert Ford Tractor Sales and previously worked for Ryder Student Transportation System as a driver, trainer and assistant to the safety coordinator. She has also worked at Cape Cycle Kawasaki and as office manager for Rushing Marine Corp.
She is a former member of the Law Enforcement Wives and has been active in Girl Scouting.
