Stoddard County mom charged with endangerment, DUI after wreck

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- A woman was behind bars Tuesday following an accident Monday on Highway 25 south in Bloomfield. Jessica D. Harms, 27, is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of driving under the influence of drugs. In a probable-cause statement, Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper Levi Rawson said when he arrived on the scene he saw Harms' vehicle about 150 feet west of the road. He also said there were two children, ages 6 and 8, inside the vehicle. Harms was in jail under a $25,000 cash-only bond and will be arraigned Thursday before Judge Joe Satterfield.

The youngest of the two children, ages 6 and 8, said, "We were driving and my mom kept running off the road. About the fourth time we went into the grass and into the trees." Rawson also stated the young girl said her back was hurting.

Rawson said he could tell Harms' speech was slurred and that her eyes were "glassy and staring".

When first asked if she had taken any medication Harms said no, but later stated she was prescribed Percocet but hadn't taken it in several days. Later in the conversation she admitted to having taken the Percocet the night before.

Rawson said she "performed poorly on all tests".
