It was the second landmark designation given by the commission. The first was the Old Lorimier Cemetery.

The home was honored for certain exterior and interior architectural features as well as the family history.

The Cape Cod-style brick home was constructed by Bill Gerhardt in late 1939. The brick, which is handmade, was salvaged from the original homestead built in the late 1890s. The interior of the home has several significant features, some of which were salvaged from the original homestead, including plank flooring, a painted fireplace mantle and stairway.
