David Stewart, a 37-year-old restaurant manager who embarked on a 1,600-mile walk from Wyoming to Nashville, Tenn., will be in Cape Girardeau Friday, Sept. 9, to sign his book recounting the experience.
Stewart will appear at Waldenbooks in Cape to sign copies of his book "Heart and Sole : The Road I Chose." Stewart will be accompanied by his dog, Snicker, his companion during the walk.
After going through six pairs of walking shoes in 84 days, Stewart finally realized his dream of singing on the Grand Ole Opry.
He battled blizzards and heat waves, sickness, wild dogs, renegade bikers, blisters and parasites as he travelled through seven states in four months.
Although he won't be walking this year, Stewart will retrace the 1,600-mile trip. This time, however, he will going in reverse order to promote his book.
