Congressman Ike Skelton of the 4th Missouri District recently congratulated Chaplain Mark G. Steiner, lieutenant commander, United States Navy, for receiving a master of arts in national security and strategic studies from Naval War College, Newport, R.I.
Steiner is the son of the late Gilbert Steiner and Bernice Steiner of Jackson. Skelton was the guest speaker for the graduation ceremony, which was held June 16.
Chaplain Steiner, who has served with Navy and Marine Corps units, was selected to represent the Navy Chaplain Corps during 1999-2000 academic year. The course of study included: strategy and policy, joint maritime operations, and strategy and force planning. In addition to the master's degree, Steiner received an award for Academic Excellence in Strategic Studies.
Currently, Steiner is assigned to Navy Chief of Chaplains Staff, Washington, D.C. Steiner dedicated this year of academic work in honor of his cousin, Dennis Starzinger, a Vietnam veteran.
