STE. GENEVIEVE Visitors to the St. Genevieve County Fair, which is set for July 10-12, have the opportunity to go home with a Polaris Trail Boss 2-wheel-drive 250 ATV. The vehicle will be awarded at the Demolition Derby on July 12.

The fair will be kicked off with a Missouri Western Horse Show Association Point Show on July 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds arena.

Top events in the Missouri Western Association include Open Western Pleasure, Ladies Barrel Race, Open Barrel Race, Open Plug Race, Open Flag Race and County Pleasure, among others.

Youth and adults alike will get a chance to show their skills in tractor operation during the Tractor Rodeo set for noon on July 11. Trophies will be awarded.

At 3 p.m., a Wagon-Backing Contest, open to 16-year-olds and older, will be held. Those under age must have written consent of parent or guardian. Trophies will be given to the winners.

The events on July 11 continue with an Antique Stock Tractor Pull, as well as an ATV Pull at 7 p.m. Entrants will be charged a $10 fee. Trophies and prize money will be awarded. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 6-12. Children under 6 will be admitted free.

One of the new offerings at the fair this year will be the first annual 3-D Archery Shoot on July 11, with sign-up between 8 and 10 a.m. Competition will take place in five divisions: Open, Hunter, Women's, Youth and Cub. Prizes and trophies will be awarded.

Those who enjoy sand volleyball are invited to participate in the Sand Volleyball Tournament on July 11-12. Participants must register on or before July 6.

A popular attraction every year at the fair is the cow chip lottery. On July 11 at 1 p.m., a random drawing will be conducted for square selection. This year's lottery will have two placings with the first prize set at $400 and a second prize of $100.

Kids will also have plenty to do at the fair. A Quarter Scramble is set for 3 p.m. on July 12. Youngsters will be divided into five age groups, from age 2 and under to age 6. Each group will scramble to find $25 worth of quarters.

Those a bit older might want to participate in the Pogo Ball Race on July 12 at 1:30 p.m. The age categories are: 8 and under, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-15. Medals will be awarded in each age division.

A greased pig contest will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m. for brave children in four age divisions: 6 and under, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12. Successful pig catchers will get to keep the pig.

Highlighting the entire weekend will be the excitement of the annual Demolition Derby, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. on July 12.

The fair is located just off North Main Street in Ste. Genevieve. Those entering Ste. Genevieve can follow Hwy. 32 into Fourth Street to the fairgrounds at the north end of town.
