Members of the Ste. Genevieve Artists Guild will put their work on display during the month of August at Gallery 100.
The exhibit will open with a reception for the artists on Sunday, Aug. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. Gallery 100 is located at 1707 Mt. Auburn Rd.
The exhibit will run through Aug. 26 with regular Gallery 100 hours from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Ste. Genevieve has been a haven for artists for over a century. In the 1930s there was a group formed for workshops, painting sessions and classes. Several members earned regional and national recognition.
Since 1980 Ste. Genevieve residents felt the need for a modern organization for artists and founded the Ste. Genevieve Artists Guild.
The founders were Jane Naeger, Betty Geraughty and Margaret Forhan Conwell.
The exhibit will include examples of work from Naeger and Geraughty, both of whom are still active members of the guild.
The paintings on display are in watercolor, oil, mixed media, pen and ink, and pastel. In addition, three-dimensional woven leather baskets by Kevin McPhail will be on exhibit.
The purpose of the guild is to provide encouragement to all artists, beginners through professionals. "Our only requirement is that all work presented be an original inspiration of the artist," said Doris Leffelman, president of the Ste. Genevieve Artists Guild.
