DEXTER, Mo. -- Republican Sen. Rob Mayer announced Thursday he intends to seek the judicial seat of the 35th Circuit, currently held by Judge Stephen R. Sharp. The seat is up for election in November.

Mayer is currently serving as a state senator, representing the 25th District. Due to term limits, he cannot seek re-election.

Mayer is a 1975 graduate of Dexter High School, received his undergraduate degree from Southeast Missouri State University and a law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

As state senator, Mayer served as chairman of the Crime Prevention Committee for two years and was vice chairman of the Senate's Judiciary Committee.

He was elected unanimously to serve as the first President Pro Tem of the Missouri Senate from the Bootheel.
