Judge OKs $100,000 in woman's death

OAKVILLE, Mo. -- A judge approved a $100,000 settlement in a wrongful-death lawsuit involving the family of a south St. Louis County woman shot fatally while sitting on her back porch. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported a judge approved the settlement Friday for the family of 84-year-old Betty Lou Knight, killed in June when a bullet struck her neck. Knight's husband and their three children sued Raymond Bodicky. The lawsuit, filed in January, accused Bodicky of "negligently and carelessly" killing Knight by shooting across private property in violation of county ordinance and state law. Police have said Bodicky was their only suspect, but prosecutors never charged him, citing the need for more evidence. Bodicky's lawyer declined to comment on the settlement.
