Trekker alert. Mark Lenard, who played Sarek of Vulcan in the Star Trek series, and Robin Curtis Lt. Saavik in the "Star Trek III and IV" movies will be beamed down to Cape Girardeau June 19-20.

CONtinuum '93, a Star Trek convention which will begin the afternoon of June 18 at the Holiday Inn Convention Center, will feature memorabilia dealers and various Star Trek-related activities.

Both Lenard and Curtis will speak and sign autographs June 19-20. Also on hand will be M.S. Murdock, author of "Web of the Romulans"; Trek artist Keith Birdsong; and Jean Kluge, fan guest of honor.

The convention will begin June 18 at about 4 p.m. and will continue through 11 that night.

The hours Saturday are 9 a.m.-midnight, and Sunday 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

A charity auction for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will be held at about 8 p.m. on June 19. Among the items to be auctioned are a "Made in America" movie poster autographed by Whoopi Goldberg, a "Night Court" T-shirt autographed by John Larroquette and autographed photos of LeVar Burton, Christopher Lloyd, DeForrest Kelley and Brent Spiner.

A dealers room will offer books, comic books, artwork, gaming supplies, posters and T-shirts.

Video rooms, gaming, dancing, a costume contest, make-up and costuming seminars, art panels, an art show and auction also will be presented.

Lenard appeared in two episodes in the original Star Trek series, playing Spock's father. He also played a Romulan commander in the TV series, and a Klingon in the first Star Trek movie.

He also has appear in the more recent "Next Generation" Star Trek series.

His film credits include "The Greatest Story Ever Told" and "Annie Hall," and he has appeared on TV's "Here Come the Brides," "Planet of the Apes" and "Cliffhangers."

Curtis's film credits include "Ghost Story," "LBJ" and "In Love with an Older Woman." On TV, she has appeared in "Herman's Head," "MacGyver," "Night Court," "Dream On" and "General Hospital."

Admission for the entire weekend is $40 for adults (ages 13 and over). Partial registrations are available for Saturday only ($25) and Sunday only ($20). Children, ages 6-12, will be admitted at half the regular price when accompanied by an adult. Children under 6 will be admitted free.

The convention, held every other year in Cape Girardeau, is sponsored by KBSI-TV, the USS Sally Ride (Cape Girardeau) and the USS Constellation II (Paducah) chapters of Starfleet, an international Star Trek fan club.

The USS Sally Ride has about 25 members, most of them from Cape Girardeau and a few from Piedmont.

The last Star Trek convention held in Cape Girardeau was attended by about 800 people.
