Stanley D. Sides, M.D., has begun a two-year term as president of the medical staff at St. Francis Medical Center, succeeding R.A. Ritter Jr., M.D.
Sides' term began Jan. 1.
Other members of the St. Francis Medical staff's executive committee are cardiologist James B. Chapman, M.D., vice president; general surgeon Jonathon K. Foley, M.D., secretary; pediatrician Sarah A. Aydt, M.D., representing the St. Francis Department of Pediatrics; neurologist Robert E. Gardner, M.D., representing the hospital's Department of Medicine; orthopedic surgeon William P. Thorpe, representing the hospital's Department of Surgery; family practitioner S. Kent Griffith, representing the St. Francis Department of Family Practice; and pathologist William D. Stahr, M.D., representing hospital-based physicians at St. Francis.
Sides, whose medical specialties are hematology, oncology and internal medicine, has served in various capacities on the St. Francis medical staff, most recently as vice president the past two years. He is associated with the Internal Medicine Group, 14 Doctors' Park.
Sides is a graduate of Jackson High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University prior to attending the University of Missouri School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree in 1968. He served an internship and residency at the University of Kentucky hospitals followed by a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology, also at the University of Kentucky.
He also served as a battalion surgeon with the First Marine Division in Vietnam and as an internist at the Naval Hospital in Millington, Tenn., during the early 1970s.
Sides joined the St. Francis medical staff in 1974. He serves as medical director of the St. Francis Womancare program and is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology.
He and his wife, Kay, have two sons, David and Stephen.
