The Knowledge Master team at St. Vincent de Paul School in Cape Girardeau finished 10th in Missouri and 260th in the nation.
The team of seventh and eighth graders scored 1,439 of a possible 2,000 points and answered 88.5 percent of the questions correctly in the middle school division.
Scholar Bowl coach Mary Sue Sharp described the event as "a great opportunity for the students. This is the first time any of these students have competed in the Knowledge Master open. We finished well above the mean for the middle school division, and I am very proud of their efforts."
Eighth grade students participating in the contest were Ben Edwards, Matt Fisher, Anne Hays, Laura Hoffman and Matt Howard. Seventh graders competing were Andy Buchheit, Patrick DesPres, Joe Essner, Ryan Fenwick, Cecilia Kuntz, Luke LeGrand, Stephanie Miller and Brent Schumer.
The contest runs on classroom computers.
