JACKSON -- St. Paul Lutheran Church and its school will expand with a new $2.2 million building project. Initial construction on the project began this week.
The church developed plans for a new 30,000-square-foot multi-purpose building to create more space for classrooms at the school and meeting rooms at the church.
The building will be constructed in a lot between the current church and gymnasium. It will include eight classrooms for grades 1 to 4 and three kindergarten classrooms. It also will allow the school to wire for computers and advanced technology.
There will be a library, office complex and teacher's workspace, as well as a new cafeteria.
Construction should take about 10 months, said Loyd Birk, co-chairman of the building committee. "We have raised about half the money now and the people are really anxious to get started."
