St. Louis to get federal help for floodwall repair
ST. LOUIS -- The city of St. Louis will get some help repairing its downtown floodwall. The city has signed a funding agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to make needed repairs to the system, which was completed in 1974. The Corps said the money will be used to install relief wells for seepage under the levee. The $17-million project is the first stage in an upgrade that will fund 70 new relief wells and replace 20 existing flood gates.
