St. Louis seeks to clear warrant cases

ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Municipal Court officials began an effort to help many of those with outstanding warrants to clear their cases at no cost.

For a two-week period that began Monday, people can reschedule court dates for warrants for failing to appear in court.

The waiver applies only to non-violent crime cases and does not apply to state criminal cases.

The city also is not recalling warrants for driving while intoxicated or leaving the scene of an accident, but those with warrants for those crimes can post bond during the two-week period without fear of arrest.

St. Louis officials said more than 51,000 people account for 130,000 outstanding cases.
