JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missouri's Revenue Department says a contract has been withdrawn for a member of the St. Louis County Council to operate a state license office.
The contract for the Maplewood license office went to Kathleen Burkett. In a statement Thursday, the Revenue Department said she failed to satisfy financial assurances required in its proposal. Revenue officials gave no other details.
News media in St. Louis have reported that Burkett filed last year for bankruptcy.
Burkett said Thursday she's upset with how the process worked and presumes accounts about her bankruptcy factored in the withdrawal.
The contract now will go to Mid-America Transplant Services of St. Louis.
Missouri bids out the contracts to operate license offices. Contractors charge fees to process vehicle registrations and driver's licenses and to collect vehicle sales taxes.
