ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Five high school basketball championships won by Vashon High School in St. Louis are being scrutinized by the Missouri State High School Activities Association.
The association is delving into the eligibility of at least 15 Vashon players from 1998 to last year. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says questions have been raised about whether players lived within the school's boundaries or were improperly recruited.
The team won five championships during those years, under coach Floyd Irons. A lawyer for Irons, Rick Sindel, says school administrators and not Irons were responsible for checking student addresses. Irons retired last year.
He pleaded guilty in September to mail and wire fraud in a real estate scheme.
