ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis County tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch it is processing about 20,000 new voter registrations in advance of the election.
It is the state's largest voting jurisdiction.
County Republican elections director Joseph Goeke said about 50 workers, including many temporary employees, are working to get the backlog resolved.
State law mandates that new voter registrations be placed on the voting rolls within seven days. He says they're working on that as quickly as they can.
Other communities in Missouri, a battleground state, are reporting high numbers of new registrations.
