CLAYTON, Mo. -- A month after St. Louis County police began carrying Narcan, the opiate overdose antidote already has saved a life.
Police went to a car crash Wednesday on Interstate 55 in south St. Louis County. Officers saw the driver's skin was turning blue, and he was sweating profusely. No pulse could be found, and the officers began CPR.
Police spokesman Brian Schellman said the officers determined the symptoms were consist with opiate overdose and administered Narcan in each of the man's nostrils.
Police said the victim is expected to make a full recovery.
