St. Louis board to consider review panel

ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis' governing board appears poised to consider a measure that would establish a civilian panel that would review complaints against police officers.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported the city's aldermanic board was to hold a special meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday to consider the bill.

The proposed seven-person St. Louis Civilian Oversight Board would have the authority to investigate allegations of police misconduct. It also would research and assess police policies, and operations and procedures, as well as make findings and recommendations.

The board also could review evidence and witness statements from investigations by police internal affairs, then report its findings to the city's public safety director and police chief.

The board wouldn't have subpoena power.
