Several topics of interest to licensed practical nurses will be discussed during the third annual LPN seminar at St. Francis Medical Center May 16.

The seminar, titled "Your Profession in the '90s," will begin at 8:15 a.m. in the St. Francis Health & Education Center and will continue until about 3:30 p.m.

Internal medicine physician Theodore Grieshop, who specializes in infectious diseases, will be the seminar's first speaker. He will discuss the incidence of tuberculosis in the 1990s and the care required to treat patients with tuberculosis.

After Dr. Grieshop's presentation, Cathy Tenkhoff, R.N., of the St. Francis Education Department, will explore the boundaries of LPN practice with regards to physician orders.

Mary Burton, R.N., of the local chapter of the American Red Cross will then discuss the role of LPNs in disaster preparedness. Other seminar speakers will include Judy Johnson, LCSW, LPC, of the Community Counseling Center who will discuss the hazards of self-critical thinking and Claire Lafoon, M.A., also of the Community Counseling Center, who will offer tips on stress-relieving relaxation techniques.

Registration fee is $25 for non-St. Francis employees and $10 for full-time students. Enrollment is limited to the first 100 registrants and the enrollment deadline is Thursday, May 12. To enroll or for more information call the St. Francis Education Department, 339-6107.
