Seventeen students were presented $1,000 scholarships Monday from St. Francis Medical Center Foundation and Auxiliary. The students are pursuing health care careers.

William H. Kiel, executive director of the foundation, said the scholarship program helps ensure the students receive the support they need to continue their education and help provide quality health care to the area.

The program has helped students for the past 20 years, he said. Since 1980, the program has offered $137,000 to students in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois. Kiel and St. Francis Auxiliary President Carolyn Wright presented the awards.
