A free seminar on the causes and prevention of stroke will be held at St. Francis Medical Center Tuesday.
The program, to be held in the hospital's Health & Education Centre, will begin at 7 p.m. and is expected to last until about 8:30 p.m.
"Understanding and Preventing Stroke" is one in a series of free community health forum programs presented by St. Francis.
The program Tuesday night is open to all interested persons and will be led by St. Francis neuro~science clinical nurse specialist Chris Byrd.
Topics to be covered during the program include the risk factors for stroke and transient ischemic attack, which include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, excessive alcohol use, family history of stroke, diabetes, heart disease, heart valve disease and high red blood cell count.
The Health & Education Centre is located on the northwest side of the medical center. To reach the Health & Education Centre, follow the signs from the medical center's Mount Auburn Road entrance. Ample parking is available.
Although the program is free of charge, seating is limited and preregistration is requested. To preregister, call the St. Francis Education Department at 339-6107.
