The Missouri Department of Health has awarded St. Francis Medical Center a $3,000 block grant to help provide child safety instruction for licensed child care providers in several area counties.
The grant proposal was prepared by Kathy Casteel, community education instructor at the St. Francis Information Center in Jackson.
"I am excited that we will be able to provide free training for child care providers," said Casteel. "They are responsible for our most precious natural resource, our children. It is important that they know what to do if an emergency occurs."
Counties included in the block grant area: Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Iron, Madison, Perry, St. Francois and Ste. Genevieve. Personnel from licensed child care facilities in these counties are eligible for free first aid instruction and pediatric basic life support training through the St. Francis Information Center.
