St. Francis Medical Center has received renewal of accreditation by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB).

The accreditation follows an intensive on-site inspection by AABB representatives. St. Francis joins more than 2,000 similar facilities across the U.S. and abroad that have earned AABB accreditation.

"The AABB's inspection and accreditation procedures area voluntary," said Dr. Paul C. Horn, medical director of the St. Francis laboratory. "St. Francis sought the accreditation because this program assists facilities around the nation in achieving excellence by promotion a level of professional and medical expertise that contributes to quality care."

The AABB has engaged in voluntary inspection and accreditation of blood banks and transfusion services since 1958.
