St. Francis Medical Center Foundation and Auxiliary presented 18 $1,000 healthcare scholarships recently to area students.
This year, in addition to the 18 scholarships awarded, two $500 scholarships were given to the School of Practical Nursing at the Vocational-Technical Schools, soon to be the Career and Technology Center. A new scholarship was awarded this year by the St. Francis Auxiliary in honor of the 125th anniversary of the medical center.
Those receiving the 2000 scholarships were:
From Cape Girardeau: Sandy Braswell, Kelly Fisher, Joe Galati, Brent Garner, Cynthia Payne, Scot Wanamaker and Leah Wessel.
From Jackson: Brooke Hendricks, Jamie Popp, Louis Reisenbichler, Angie Schwab, Kory Thoma, and Josh Whitledge.
From Scott City: Christina Ledermann.
From Kelso: Tracy Carman.
From Chaffee: Eddie Wagoner and Renee Vandeven.
From Simpson, Ill.: Adrienne Aly.
"This scholarship program helps ensure that dedicated and talented professionals receive the support and assistance they may need to continue their education." said William H. Kiel, CFRE, Executive Director of the Foundation. "This investment in our students helps provide quality healthcare to this area. The generous scholarship endowments made by many individuals and businesses over the past 20 years have secured this program."
Since 1980, the Foundation and Auxiliary have awarded $157,000 in educational scholarships to students representing Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.
