ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- St. Charles County will oversee management responsibilities at the Family Arena, a $35 million sports and entertainment facility in the city.

Joe Kernell, the county's director of administration, said Family Arena Management Enterprise, an investment partnership licensed to operate the center, had been unable to make a semiannual debt payment of $1.1 million.

He emphasized the arena will remain as the home of the Missouri River Otters hockey team, the St. Louis Steamers soccer team and the St. Louis Renegades football team.

An announcement Friday stated the partnership had decided not to continue providing more capital to make up a shortfall from arena events.
