Spurned boyfriend faces assault charges

A Cape Girardeau man is facing felony charges of assault and stealing after an incident in which he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend.

Timothy W. Henry, 41, was charged Monday with second-degree domestic assault and robbing the victim.

In a probable-cause statement obtained by the Southeast Missourian, the victim said she was walking in the 200 block of South Benton Street on Saturday night when Henry approached and asked if they could "get back together." The victim, who as a victim of domestic assault will not have her name published, had filed a protection order against Henry in November.

The victim said she told Henry she didn't want to speak with him and told him to get away from her. Henry, she said, became upset and struck her on the left side of her face. She said she fell to the ground at which point Henry told her to give him money. The victim said she complied by giving $100 to Henry, who left the area.

The victim was able to stand and had someone call police. She was transported to Southeast Hospital, which notified the Cape Girardeau Police Department that the victim had suffered a broken jaw.

Henry is in custody in the Cape Girardeau County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.

Representatives from the county prosecutor's office were not available for comment. No defense attorney was listed in online court records.
