JACKSON -- The city of Jackson will hold its Spring Clean-up Week May 6-10.
During the week, residents will have a chance to clear out basements and attics by putting extra amounts of trash out for curbside pick-up.
While the city is not restricting the amount of refuse that will be picked up, there are are a few rules:
Refuse must be at the curb by 8 a.m. on residents' regular trash pick-up day. No return trips will be made for customers who miss the deadline.
No more than 60 pounds of refuse can be placed in each container.
Only residential customers are eligible for the special pick-up. Commercial accounts are excluded.
Grass, leaves and yard or garden waste must be bagged and kept separate from other refuse because those items will be picked up by a different vehicle.
Tree limbs must be bundled and tied in bunches of no more than 60 pounds or 4 feet in length. Tree limbs will alsobe picked up by a separate vehicle.
Tires, batteries and paint will be picked up, but paint must be separate from other refuse. The charge for tires is $2 each for car tires and $3 each for truck tires.
The Sanitation Department will not pick up motor oil, but it can be delivered to the city's Maintenance Department, 412 Florence St., for disposal.
Appliances will be picked up for a $5 charge.
