Commencement for Cape Girardeau Central High School will be held June 7 at the Show Me Center.

This will mark the first time that the Central High School graduation ceremony has been held at the center. Commencement begins at 8 p.m.

Speaker for the ceremony is Charlie Spoonhour, basketball coach at Southwest Missouri State University.

Baccalaureate is scheduled June 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Central High School gymnasium. The Rev. William Matzat, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, will be the speaker.

Spoonhour has served as head coach at SMSU since 1983. In that time, he has been named the Mid-Continent Conference Coach of the Year three times.

Under his leadership, the SMSU Bears have participated in several NCAA tournaments.

In 1989-90, the Bears became the first SMSU team and first Mid-Continent team ever to log five straight 20-win seasons.

In 1988, Spoonhour served as a clinician at the European Olympic Trials in Rotterdam, Holland.

Spoonhour began his successful career as basketball coach at Bloomfield High School.
