Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838 is proud to nominate Glenneta Vogelsang for the prestigious Spirit of America award.

Glenneta joined the VFW Ladies Auxiliary on the eligibility of her husband, Calvin Vogelsang (deceased), a World War II veteran. She has been an active member for more than 50 years, dedicating her life to assisting veterans and their families, while raising her own four children.

She served as Department of Missouri LAVFW president in 1974, was national president in 1984, and has continued to hold chairmanships and offices every year. She was hugely involved in getting the Missouri Veterans Home built in Cape and has served on the board since it was established. She has helped serve her community by serving on the VIP Board. Over the years she has organized parades, bake sales, dinners, activities for local children, flag etiquette lessons and pledge allegiance awards at schools, dances, Buddy Poppy drives, publishing and printing newsletters, visiting hospitalized veterans, among many numerous other projects.

She and her husband, Calvin, helped to begin the avenue of flags that is still enjoyed on holidays at Cape County Park. Glenneta helped establish the summer reading bike program at the local library. We can think of no one who more deserves the Spirit of America Award than Glenneta, who is always seen wearing her patriotic attire as well.
