The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney's office has a new assistant prosecutor.
Lori A. Spillane, 25, officially assumed the position of assistant prosecuting attorney Tuesday. She is a native of Chesterfield in St. Louis County and a May graduate of the St. Louis University School of Law.
Spillane fills a vacancy left by former assistant prosecutor Nancy J. Narrow, who left the office in August to go into private practice in Perryville. She joins Ian D. Sutherland and Bob J. Gowen as full-time assistant prosecutors on the staff of Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle.
Spillane began working at the prosecutor's office as a law clerk on Sept. 9. On Friday, she found out she passed the Missouri Bar Exam, making her eligible for the prosecutor's position.
In law school Spillane was a member of the St. Louis University Law Journal and the International Law Society. She graduated in the upper-third of her class and received Academic Achievement Awards in corporate finance and international law.
While in law school, she published a case note in the St. Louis University Law Journal. After graduating, she worked as a law clerk for a well-known criminal defense lawyer, Donald Wolff of Clayton.
Spillane is a graduate of Visitation Academy in St. Louis and Boston University and now lives in Cape Girardeau.
"I am delighted to have Lori as a part of our staff," Swingle said. "She was a high achiever in law school and she has the potential to be a fine trial lawyer."
