The Jackson High School Speech Team has completed their most successful year, topping last year's great year.
At the District Speech competition on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University in a field of 22 high schools Jackson placed in every event for the first time ever.
The team won the Sweepstakes Trophy presented by the Speech and Theatre Department.
Stan Baughn took first place in the Lincoln-Douglas debate and teammate Andrew Luehrs took second place in the event.
Josh Zinner took first place in storytelling. Cabell Gathman took second place in both Dramatic Interpretation and Prose.
Melinda Bill took third place for Radio Speaking and Luehrs took a third place for Extemporaneous Speaking.
In Original Oratory, Helen Wilbanks placed second and Nick Murphy took fourth place for Humorous Interpretation.
Rebekah Stephens placed fourth in Poetry Reading and Kathryn Pelikan and Josh Zinner took fourth place in Duet Acting.
In all six members qualified for state competition in seven different events. Baughn, Luehrs, Josh Zinner, Cabell Gathman and Wilbanks qualified for the state competition. Luehrs and Gathman each qualified for two different categories.
