Openings remain for a community Beginning Internet training scheduled next Tuesday evening.

The class is co-sponsored by the Southeast Missourian and Southeast Missouri State University, and taught by members of the SEMissourian.com Web staff.

Participants have their own computer with high-speed Internet access for the hands-on session. The class will last two hours, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Dempster Hall on the university campus.

The sessions fill up quickly so early registration is encouraged.

Since the classes began in 1997, more than 1,000 people from throughout the region have received Internet training through the program. Participants have ranged in age from 8 to 94.

Interested persons can call the Southeast Missouri at 335-6611, ext. 151, and ask for Sharon Rogers. Registration is limited to 38 individuals per session. The class is geared for beginners, and individuals will receive a number of informational handouts.

The beginning class will be repeated once more on Dec. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Due to high demand for the intermediate class, it will be offered again on Thursday, Dec. 2 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The intermediate class covers such topics as e-mail, chat, downloading and installing programs in more detail. Again, a number of information handouts are distributed to participants.

Cost is $20 for either the beginning or intermediate class, and payment is required prior to registration. The cost is $10 for newspaper subscribers. New subscribers can pay $13.50 for one month and receive the class free.

An admission ticket and parking pass will be issued upon payment. Tickets are transferable to another individual, but nonrefundable.
