Residents in 180 homes near Bloomfield Road must boil tap water for the next two days, after an accidental water main break.
Kevin Priester, Cape Girardeau's water system manager, said notices with instructions are being delivered by hand to the 180 homes.
It's rare that so many homes are affected by a water main break, he said. "It's in an odd area. It's a pretty long artery to not have two feeds," he said, The water main serving that area ends near the Dalhousie development.
He said residents living in Dalhousie homes as well as those in the Stonebridge, Carpenters, White Oaks and Benton Hill subdivisions should boil tap water until 6 p.m. Thursday.
Priester said contractors working on Bloomfield Road, just west of Kell Farm, broke the section of the water main.
He said water samples will be tested by Environmental Analysis of Jackson.
The phone number for Cape Girardeau's water division is 651-6280.
