Southeast Missouri State University's 107-45 women's basketball destruction of overmatched Lyon College on Tuesday not only was the team's first win of the season -- it also represented a historic victory for the program.
The 107 points set a school single-game scoring record for Southeast's women. The previous record of 106 points was reached twice, in 1987 (106-57 against Missouri Baptist) and 1985 (106-41 against Southern Indiana).
Southeast's 61 second-half points against NAIA Lyon tied a school record for points in a half. And Tuesday's performance marked the first time under third-year coach B.J. Smith that Southeast has scored 100 or more points.
Southeast (1-1) will return to action as it hosts the HealthPoint Plaza Thanksgiving Classic, a four-team event set for Friday and Saturday at the Show Me Center.
Friday's schedule has Southeast playing Texas Southern at 7 p.m., following a game between Illinois-Chicago and Arkansas-Little Rock at 5 p.m.
On Saturday, Southeast takes on Illinois-Chicago at 4 p.m., after Arkansas-Little Rock and Texas Southern square off at 2 p.m.
